Anxiety

Do you  worry about the future?   Are you rarely fully present in what you are doing because your mind is consumed by a nagging fear about where your life is going?  Do you seek reassurance from others, and have difficulty trusting yourself?  If so, you may be experiencing anxiety.

Anxiety can show up in many parts of a person’s life, and is felt in both mind and body.  Common scenarios where people experience anxiety are:

  • Work performance

  • Social anxiety

  • Rumination about the future

  • Insomnia/difficulty staying asleep

  • Fear of abandonment

  • Fear of failure

  • Fear of making the wrong decision (decision paralysis)

Anxiety also manifests physically in the body, with symptoms such as a racing heart, stomach aches, nausea, dizziness, or physical panic.

When anxiety is debilitating, it can lead people to act in ways that are harmful to their well-being.  Using drugs and alcohol, smoking, overeating, overspending, skin picking, rumination, avoidance, or even binging on Netflix are some ways that people try to escape feelings of anxiety.  While these behaviors may quell worry in the short-term, they tend to harm you in the long-term and can lead to bigger problems.

In our work together, I will help you gain insight and tools to understand your anxiety, to soothe and reassure yourself, and to find healthy coping mechanisms for managing your emotions.  You will learn to trust the process of life.
